To do this, after installation, open the main window of the FDM, click on the menu FileCreate Portable Version, only a location on your hard drive or USB Flash Driver and then click OK.

Kết nối internet theo kiểu quay số DialUp đã dần nhường chổ cho ADSL. Tuy nhiên, vẫn còn nhiều địa phương chưa có cổng ADSL và chất lượng cũng như tốc độ kết nối vẫn là điều còn gây tranh cãi. Vì vậy, để tải một file lên mạng hoặc lấy file về máy tính rất cần những phần mềm hỗ trợ để tăng tốc thực thi.
Một trong số những phần mềm giúp người dùng thực hiện tăng tốc tải file với các đặc điểm: Miễn phí, tương thích Windows kể cả Vista, hỗ trợ giao diện tiếng Việt… là Free Download Manager (FDM). Phiên bản 2.5 của FDM được phát hành ngày 15.08.2007 tại địa chỉ

Sau khi cài đặt FDM sẽ chạy thường trú dưới khay hệ thống, khi ra lệnh tải file nó sẽ hoạt động một cách tự động.
Điều khá độc đáo của FDM là cho phép chúng ta chuyển từ một phần mềm cần cài đặt sang dạng Portable, dễ dàng và thuận tiện sử dụng mọi nơi, mọi lúc. Để làm được điều này, sau khi cài đặt, mở cửa sổ chính của FDM, bấm vào menu FileCreate Portable Version, chỉ vị trí lưu trên ổ đĩa cứng hoặc USB Flash Driver rồi bấm OK.
Trong giao diện chính của FDM có 3 thẻ giúp người dùng dễ dàng thao tác là:
+ Downloads: Cho phép tải tất cả các loại file
+ Flash Video Downloads: Giúp tải file video dạng Flash từ Google video và YouTube dễ dạng hơn
+ Upload: Tải file từ máy tính lên internet
