Re: Showing some SSL error

It looks like there is an old certificate cached somewhere in your system. Currently FDM has a new certificate dated on 2021-09-16.
Close FDM, run your browser and delete all freedownloadmanager.org pages from your browser history, then restart your system and try again. It should help if you don't use any external proxy for connection.

I'm afraid you have really installed some malware. Your PC or your router may be a part of a botnet now. You should report your problem to Malwarebytes support (full IP list will be helpful).
FDM is not a direct source of your problem, if you downloaded the installer from this forum. However, the malware might change proxy settings in your FDM or somehow abuse FDM extension in your browser. If you downloaded FDM installer from another site, it might be wrapped in malware installer. That download URL may be also helpful for Malwarebytes support.

Re: connection refused

Coul you follow the reporting rules and provide more details, please? What OS version/build, what browser version/build, what FDM version/build, what download site, what download link? What proxy settings, how FDM works without proxy?

Re: FDM 3.9.7

... and its extensions, for example Firefox or some download manager using OpenSSL libs. Stop blaming the old program, please, FDM3 won't be updated. You are ignoring the poing. The problem exists - that's a fact, and I'm reporting about it. It's up to developers to fix it or not. It is YOU who doesn't want to read older topics with explanations. The developers work only on FDM 6, they will NOT update older FDM versions. They DID state it more then once in the past. If you don't want to use VPN/proxy or recommended workarounds, you can download FDM 3.9.7 source code and fix it on your own. It's free, it's Open Source, you are welcome to do it.

Re: FDM 6

FDM still reports "Network error" (when set to "System proxy") or "Timeout" (when set to "No proxy") for HTTPS downloads, including download from FDM site. Sounds like some problem with OpenSSL installation on your Mint. I don't think so. Other programs work without problems. FDM6 does not contain OpenSSL libraries in its distributive for Linux. It relies on libraries provided by system. I am not a linux expert, by the way. Neither am I. AFAIK, if FDM needs some specific libs (version or build), they should be listed in dependencies. Currently we do support Ubuntu only, and it works fine there (just tested again). Mint is Ubuntu based distribution. What Ubuntu version and what desktop environment do you use for tests? but FDM extension ...

I believe there are no such sites.

HTTPS support in FDM for Linux hasn't changed, I'm afraid. FDM still reports "Network error" (when set to "System proxy") or "Timeout" (when set to "No proxy") for HTTPS downloads, including download from FDM site. What is more, Mint Update Manager reports problems with TLS for FDM site. Tested on fully updated Linux Mint 18.3.

FDM for Android seems to work OK with HTTPS now, but FDM extension for Firefox doesn't work with Firefox 80 for Android. The browser provided with FDM doesn't have password manager (you have to remember credentials for all bookmarked sites) and doesn't support video play (you have to dig out video download links manually or using other means like savefrom.net site).

Usher wrote:What about proper https support in FDM for Linux and Android?

Hello, what do you mean?
I haven't tested the newest builds yet, so I can only link some related issues reported earlier:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18217&p=48189&hilit=https#p48189
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17900&p=48167&hilit=https#p48167

In general: FDM cannot connect to some https sites. In such cases FDM cannot get file size and reports "Network error" (or other errors depending on proxy settings), so It may depend on proxy settings or on the server-side cryptography methods.

If the server allows http connection, you can change the link from https to http and all goes OK. But if the server uses HSTS and forces https connections, downloads are unavailable.

http download is normal, OK!
https cannot be downloaded normally, it is wrong!

Only FDM6 in all Windows system environments, https cannot connect and download normally, it is wrong!
It's even worse, I'm afraid. FDM 6 works OK with HTTPS only for "System proxy" set in Windows, Linux and Android. It doesn't work with HTTPS if you choose either "No proxy" or "Manual settings".

Re: A bug in FDM 3.9.7's "Specify manually" proxy mode

Proxy configuration in FDM 3.x was somehow fixed log time ago, see here (watch timestamps):
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17016&p=39905&hilit=proxy#p39905
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15602&p=33665&hilit=proxy#p33665
Now it may work a little better, but probably is still buggy. Unfortunately, I don't remember workaround, but using proxy settings from Internet Explorer should still work, as it's described in the very first posting of this topic.

I'm afraid there won't be any fix for any HTTPS/TLS related problems in FDM 3.x.

Re: torrent cant download? user authorization required?

1. Calls to unavailable trackers redirect to the working ones using hosts file or proxy.
2. Read about retracker.local bittorrent extension.

Re: Auto pause/resume at minimum speed?

... and/or quality of intermediate servers. In such cases the problem is with flaky connection. There are no intermediate SERVERS, there are routers there, some of them may be heavily loaded or some connections may be broken during download. Packets with data may be lost or go around the world even if you connect with your neighbour using another ISP, it's unpredictable. You can use traceroute to see what's going on, but you can only change ISP to see another picture. In some cases you may use proxy as a workaround - it will be probably slower, but it may be more stable. What I do know is, if I pause the DL, wait a few seconds, then restart it, it usually climbs back up to the fast speed. Then, after a while, it starts to drop again. You mean resume, not "restart from the very beginning", right? I'm afraid it won't work as you expect. Many servers provide temporary download links. In this case you can resume download only for a limited time - maybe for a week or a day, but ...

Could you just turn off the proxy settings if you don't use them?

It looks like you are connecting through some broken proxy or other network caching/monitoring tool, see older messages:
