Re: Problem with expired download link

RazorSiS wrote:Anything on the 2nd problem I mentioned above? That is the main reason of this thread.
Problems with file and video hosting sites were described many times, just search in older topics: search.php?keywords=file+video+hosting+services&terms=all&author=Usher&sc=1&sf=all&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=-1&t=0&submit=Search
In general, only premium (payable) users may use direct persistent links, resume downloads and use download managers. Other people should just try to download only one file at a time using only single connection per site, but in some cases you'll get only some small html file with error message, with no guarantee to resume and to success at all.
Note also that:
- There is NO faster download in any download manager using only single connection.
- You must use your browser to get a new temporary link, so you should better bookmark the download webpage in your browser rather than keep expired link in download manager.

RazorSiS wrote:Should I switch to fdm 3 coz fdm5 doesn't provide resume option for existing download (screenshot in my previous post)
Resuming MUST be allowed by the server side, so it's not a reason to change download manager. However, classic FDM 3 is more flexible in managing problematic sites:
- You can use Site manager to limit connections per site.
- You can add a new temporary link as a mirror link (with no guarantee to resume download).
- If some site doesn't allow to use FDM, you can add this site to skip list in FDM and the next time FDM will let your browser to download files from that site.

Re: Add support for 2 websites

File hosting services allow using download managers, permanent links, direct downloads, multiple connections, download resuming etc. only for premium (payable) accounts of those services.
Anonymous (not logged in) or free users should open download webpage, watch ads, solve CAPTCHA etc. and only then there is some chance that some download manager may catch temporary download link with all metadata (User Agent, Referer, SessionID and other cookies) and download file using single connection (no stopping download, no closing download webpage).

Many links (especially from file hosting services) DO NOT work with copy and paste, some don't work like that even for premium users. They may require to watch ads, solve captcha, pass User Agent, Referer, session ID, other cookies or metadata from the browser, etc.

no, another computer under Windows 10 x32. Build 4726.1 was installed and works correctly. Build 5140 same problem : add a download link, the application closes immediately
It seems you did the same wrong thing once again - ignored suggestion to ALWAYS MAKE BACKUP of your FDM service files (*.sav) when dealing with alpha/preview builds.
The structure of *.sav files may be changed in alpha/preview builds without warning. Some changes may be incompatible so the service files may need conversion. In some cases FDM can't properly convert older files and may crash immediately after start or after adding a new download. See similar case for FDM 3.9.5: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17053&p=40412#p40412

BTW. Stop your strange way of answering and quoting, please. Use the forum editing tools (f.e. click (”) button to answer, cut unneeded quoting, use BBCode tags to properly format quoted text) and do not post your answers to random topics.

Re: FDM 3.9.6

JonIrenicus wrote:Last version of FDM has some incorrect logic.
I am trying to download a file (Daemon Tools Lite):
http://mirror09.mountspace.com/getfile. ... taller.exe
As you see, FDM gets this URL, which has .php and FDM preparing for it group OTHERS, but it is not correct, because this link downloads .EXE, which should be placed in the Software group!
The logic is very simple and very old, unchanged for years. It was introduced in the ancient times, when FTP sites and direct download links were in common use. FDM determines download group basing on an original download URL. If file extension is not defined in any groups, "Other" group is used.
Currently such a simple logic doesn't work in most cases, as download sites use redirections and you really don't know what is hidden behind good-looking links. For example:
- In your URL *.php file is linked. Path to *.exe file is a parameter for redirection (stands after ?), not a direct download link. In short words - you can click link to *.php (*.html, *.asp etc.), but download *.exe instead.
- Direct download links to file hosting sites in most cases work properly only for logged-in premium account users. Other users for such links may download only error message or login request in text/plain ot text/html. In short words - you can click link to *.exe but download *.html instead.

Knowing that you can change download group manually (fe. change group to "Software" when downloading some rar files and "Video" or "Audio" when downloading some other rar files) or use more sophisticated features:
- You can define your own groups and associate them with specific sites using Site Manager (good for downloads from many subdomains working as a cloud).
- You can use macros for download ("Save to folder") paths.

Note that groups don't work at all for (flash) video downloads, but macros DO work when defining "Save to folder" manually.

Re: FDM 3.9.5 Release Candidate

MELERIX wrote:I've updated the post above with more details, anyway this does not require major explanation because is easy to test, and even clicking or copying the link manually in FDM or in the browser, FDM will only download a download.html file.
Why are you still ignoring the reporting rules? What browser, what OS, what actions?

Now some clarification follows:
This URL looks like a link to some download web page (a page containing links to download files):
http://mp3tag.de/en/download.html
Tbis URL may be a direct download link:
http://download.mp3tag.de/mp3tagv268setup.exe

Direct - means you can copy and paste the url to any download manager and immediately download a file without any redirections (local or server-side). No javascript in use, no cloud mangling...

I've writen "looks like", "may be", because many file hosting services DO NOT provide direct download links and you don't know what exactly stands behind the link until you click it in your web browser. The same link may be redirected to a web page for anonymous (not logged-in) users or to a download link for (logged-in) premium account users.

Re: Getting Flash Video in Maxthon

You should follow the reporting rules and provide more details. What exactly FDM version/build do you use? What way do you use to start download?
Note that the "Download" button on that page is dedicated for direct downloads, and they are available only for premium (payable) account users.

Re: download video

You should NOT try to download video files using copy and paste. This option in most cases is blocked by the webmasters. Video and file hosting sites generate random links that quickly expire and are blocked if you don't pass referer and cookies from the webpage. Direct links that you can use for copy-and-paste are available only for users of premium (payable) accounts.

You should open the webpage, start player and only then try to download flash video. It's been described in details in many older topics.

Youtube currently uses streaming with MPEG DASH standard which is not directly supported in FDM 3.9. You can:
- Look for some youtube download helper for Chrome.
- Use Firefox with SaveFrom.net helper extension.
- Test FDM 5. Note that this is early alpha build with many features missing.

Re: Downloading index.html instead of the mp4

Cedron wrote:I'm copy and pasting the link and letting FDM do its thing.
Wrong. It works only for permanent direct download links - and they are allowed only for premium users of file/video hosting services. In other cases the server side may use temporary links, redirections, CAPTCHA or other ways to prevent download directly in a download manager. You should let the browser do its things and only in the end let FDM catch the download.
Do read older topics about file/video hosting services, please.

Re: it only downloads the url link, but not the video

In most cases you cannot download video directly (using copy-and-paste) because it is supplied by some video hosting services or by some video streaming services.
Video hosting services in most cases work like standard file hosting ones - direct downloads are usually allowed only for payable premium accounts, free accounts may be allowed to download a file in a single section after logging in (uyou must provide your login name and password in FDM using Site Manager), anonymous users may download files only with downloader emebbde in a web browser.
For video streaming services you should try to use "flash video download" option, but currently it doesn't work if the service uses the newest MPEG DASH streaming standard. Some people have reported that FlashGot add-on for Firefox works better with DASH so you can try to use this add-on instead of FDM one.

I can't help you more, if you don't provide any link or other details required for problem reporting (see link in my signature). You should also read other topics about flash video, mpeg dash and file hosting before posting here again.

Re: only get partial files

Last time I have tried FDM has no problem with uploaded.net/uploaded.to/ul.to for registered users of this file hosting service. You should use Site Manager in FDM to provide your login name and password, set connection limit to 1 and catch download link from your browser. The service allow direct downloads only for premium users and the webmasters frequently change download scripts to force this restriction.

Re: Rapidshare Direct Download with FDM

It is Rapidshare sites that doesn't allow direct downloads for anonymous and free users.

FDM works with Rapidshare for free user accounts - just run your browser, login to the Rapidshare site, paste your link and follow Rapidshare instructions. In FDM you should provide your login name and password and you can use only one connection for Rapidshare site - download goes as a single section, no resume allowed.

So what exactly do you want?
Have you checked your settings for Rapidshare in FDM Site Manager - login name, password, number of connections, https allowed etc.?
If you have problems with your premium account, you should first ask Rapidshare support. You have paid for it.
Or maybe do you want FDM to catch CAPTCHA?

Re: How to Batch Download??

The simplest way to do a batch download is to create a list of addresses and import it to FDM, but it works OK only for regular (direct) downloads.

Flash video download in FDM works interactively - you must start flash video on the webpage and click "Download with FDM" button. Then FDM addon sniffs real video address and shows dialog window with the list od addresses FDM addon has sniffed.
As you see, you can start all the videos on the webpage and download all of them, but in this case all downloaded files will have the same name as the first video started on the webpage. You shouldn't import multiple youtube addresses directly to FDM - it won't work.

You can't batch download also from file hosting services, if you are anonymous or free user. They allow direct download only for users with premium accounts.

File Not Found on file hosting services

You don't know because you haven't read.

Most file hosting services use following rules:
1. Direct links, multiple connections with unlimited bandwidth and download resuming in download managers are allowed only for premium (paid) user accounts.
2. Free users can use download managers with single connection and limited bandwidth when logged in. They must use browsers to log in and get proper download link. This is unique temporary link generated for the logged-in user, so download managers can catch that link from the browser only together with other session data (cookies, session id, referrer etc.) and use it only with the same user name and password when the browser session is still open. Download cannot be resumed.
3. Anonymous downloads are allowed only with download manager embedded in the browser.

Some file hostings use more liberal rules, some are more restictive. Many services often change their scripts to prevent workarounds, especially to block anonymous downloads with download managers.

You should have no problem in FDM when working as logged-in free Rapidshare user following the rules described above.

Topic: generate name of file automatically

Re: generate name of file automatically

You can't trust any declarations visible on a webpage - you don't know what you get until you click it. You should only trust that your software (browser or download manager) will interprete downloaded content according to its MIME type declared by the server. And for the same link the action may be different depending on user IP (content available only in some countries) or on user credentials (webpage for anonymous users, direct download linf for logged-in users with premium account).
What is more, modern websites use scripts, redirections etc. to show you adverts, do statistics and so on before you get your download. If you want to know real filename for sure you MUST start download. In many cases (and file hosting is one of them) there is really no other way, because download link is unique (contains some randomly generated string) and cannot be used twice. If you use such a link for filename checking, you won't be able to use it later for download - and any download helper or download manager won't help you.
Some program developers may claim their software is smarter, but it's not like that - they just start download hidden in the background, as many browsers do (file is preloaded before you chose a place to save it). FDM doesn't hide URL processing, you can see even more details if you want - just set "Detailed log" in FDM options and select "Log" tab in the lower FDM pane.
