How to get FDM to work with Opera 8 (This works perfect)

Postby blackcatzuk » Thu May 19, 2005 7:11 pm

Open up FDM and select "options" then "download options" then select the "monitoring tab" tick the box for " Opera 6x 7x"

FDM will then ask you to locate the opera plug in folder and it is located in
D:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins

Once selected press ok and apply and FDM will ask you to restart opera.

Restart Opera and go to "tools" and then "preferences" move to the "downloads" section and untick the box which says "hide file types opened with opera"

Find the following

video/x-msvideo avi
video/mpeg mpeg,mpg,mpe,m2v,m1v,mpa
audio/mpeg mp3,mp2,mpga
application/x-msdownload exe,bat,pif,com,scr
application/zip zip
application/x-zip-compressed zip

For each download type you need to select it and click "edit" and that will bring up a pop up box with options, move to the bottom and you will see "use plug-in" and then using the drop down menu, select the "free download manager plugin"

Do this for each of the following lines:

video/x-msvideo avi
video/mpeg mpeg,mpg,mpe,m2v,m1v,mpa
audio/mpeg mp3,mp2,mpga
application/x-msdownload exe,bat,pif,com,scr
application/zip zip
application/x-zip-compressed zip

Once you have done it for all of the above lines then Press ok, make sure you press "ok" in the preferences box and then restart opera.

This 100% works, BUT after doing all the above, you may need to repeat the following steps

>>Open up FDM and select "options" then "download options" then select >>the "motioning tab" tick the box for " Opera 6x 7x"

>>FDM will then ask you to locate the opera plug in folder and it is located >>in D:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins

>>Once selected press ok and apply and fdm will ask you to restart opera.

and restart opera again.

Hi there

Thanks for this workaround, works great. altough i would like to use fdm with some other mime-types, especially application/x-msdos-download, application/x-rar-compressed. But for these types the plugin isnt available in the edit dialog. is there any solution?

thx & cya

Unfortunately, there is no way to edit the plugin from within FDM, as there is with other download managers like LeechGet and FreshDownload.
What I did was use Resource Hacker to add additional mime-types to the plugin.
After that, the plugin will be available in the edit dialog.

When do we see FMD support for Opera without these tweaks? Opera is now in ver 10.5+
Though Opera has an inbuilt DM, it's not better than FDM 8)
