FDM Linux version or run in WINE?
Re: A Linux Version of FDM
It's not easy to port system functions used by FDM. For example torrent library use sparse files - native for NTFS file system. Do you think it can be easy ported to work with ext2/ext3 file systems? Porting GUI is also problematic - you should prepare separate ports for different desktop environments. After all, the port could be ineffective - some time ago tests proved that Firefox for Windows in Wine was faster than native Firefox for Linux.
If you want similar interface, most of listed above functions you can have using wget with some GUI such as GwGet in Gnome. With KDE you have got native KGet described as "Getright for Linux". For rpm/deb you should better use native package manager.

they have the source code there for all versions before 3.0.850, for the last 3 versions they have no code

You can use FDM for Windows in WINE. Read here:

Linux version
Would it be possible to make a linux version? I have a monthly download limit, and as it is when I need to download something, I have to reboot into windows, open a browser, click download, so that FDM can pick it up and download it between 2-6am when download don't count against our limit. I'm sure there is a linux equivalant but it's not fdm. I've used fdm for so long that I just don't trust anything else to do the job correctly. After all if I try something else, and it doesn't work, I have to wait another 24 hours.

Re: can i hope to a Linux version of FDM ?
it's not directly integrated
wine gives only the api of winnt and it is not not directly in the linuxsystem..
wine it's good, but it's not the answer for all
best regards

Yes a Linux version would be great. Works through Wine but seems heavier on resources than useing wget and others.

Have you read old topic "A Linux Version of FDM"?
Do you use any native Linux GUI for wget? If yes, have you asked developers of that GUI to add your favourite features from FDM? I think it should be easier to add such features to any existing native Linux app than to port Windows app GUI to QT, which is a complex framework.
