Bug: Automatic Updating is Annoying Without Privileges

Postby HydroKirby » Thu Jan 03, 2013 1:21 pm

1. Description: If FDM is set to automatically update but the user does not have Administrative privileges, the installation process will constantly complain about not being able to move every single language file, DLL, etc.
2. Reproduction: Trying to install FDM as a Standard User has the same effect even if you run a locally downloaded installer as opposed to letting FDM's update run that installer.
3. Expectations: Don't assume the user has Admin privileges. Make the installer run like certain other products' such as Opera; they can be activated as a Standard User, but will later ask for privileges when the user agrees to install.
4. OS, browser: Windows 7 as a Standard User with Firefox 17.0.1
5. FDM Version: 3.9.2 (Currently up-to-date seeing as how I just got over this.)
6. Additional info: Since FDM kept wanting to restart after the failed upgrade, I was able to stop its infinite loop by cancelling the download of the installer. I don't know what would happen if I ignored every single nagging action during the installation, but I didn't plan on finding out either. There really were a ton of those warnings.

My expectations are what I hope for from my favorite programs. However, an alternative is to ask for privileges the moment the installer is run like the majority of installers do. I don't like those since the former style gives you a preview of what you want to put on your computer, but I'd accept that solution as well in place of what FDM does now.
