I think my problem is what u have said. How wld i know once FDM ready to work with Firefox 33 ?
I think you should read more messages in this topic before posting. There is a clear info about the FDM FAQ and manual editing of install.rdf.

Currently both FDM 3.9.4 and 5.0 alpha should work with FDM extension for Firefox 1.6.0.8, but there may be some problems with automatic extension update in FDM 5.
In this case you should locate your %TEMP% folder and find files tmp*.tmp there. Choose one of files with 423909 bytes size and rename it to fdmext.zip. Open it and copy all the files and subfolders to Firefox\extension subfolder in your FDM folder (see step 8A in FDM FAQ for Firefox troubleshooting here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11665#p36150).

It's so great so that I refuse to use any other download manager, I work around this Firefox problems by running FDM and dragging the download links to the FDM drop box, and it works  , if you think about it, it's the same as clicking on the link 8)

I love this post.. this is how you ask for something to get fixed on a free app. state why you use it with some thanks. Politely state your frustration with the issue. All the other bile filled posts really dont help. The authors arent going to jump because they are scared someone is going to stop using their free app. And polite posts dont make the authors think you dont care how long it takes to fix. Thank you authors for this great and free application.

FDM Won't Take in Pasting Anymore

Postby max7345 » Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:48 am

So, Firefox crashed repeatedly earlier today, resulting in it removing all extensions and resetting plugins. Before that, things were fine - I didn't even have to try pasting it in. However, I reinstalled FDM to get the plugin back on Firefox, and now this is no longer the case. It just gets to http:// and stops there. It won't even let me paste the link - the option is there upon right-clicking but clicking on it results in a blank text-box.

Thinking something was up with the link I copied, I tried pasting it elsewhere and it worked fine - I can pretty much paste it anywhere except for FDM. Clipboard managing is on. I'm using version 3.9.4, and it says there are no further updates available. So...any ideas for a fix?

You should follow the reporting rules. What Firefox version, what FDM build, what OS, what antivirus?

There is some malware that catch clipboard monitoring (copy-and-paste actions) so currently antivirus (internet security) software may also do it to prevent malware attacks. Some AV reported and blocked FDM as suspicious in the past and they may still do it today.

Currently most download links in browsers are NOT direct links, so you can't use them with copy-and-paste and clipboard monitoring in most cases is unusable as copying may be blocked by webpage code (javascript etc.). Try to use FDM with clipboard monitoring turned off - just copy a link, open main FDM window, click Ctrl+N and you will see your link copied into "Add download" dialog window. Report if that way of copying works OK, please.

Note that clipboard monitoring in FDM works with a single line of text only. You should NOT use it instead of batch download option in FDM menu or instead of "Download selected with FDM" option in the context menu.

Firefox version 30.0.3, FDM build 1497, Windows Vista Basic, and I use Webroot for my anti-virus software. I'll reiterate though that everything worked fine before the re-install,which I downloaded from the main site. Also, again, FDM is the only place I'm not able to paste the links in; I CAN PASTE THEM ANYWHERE EXCEPT FOR FDM - including the web browser's address box. I'm also able to access and download (upon typing in direct the link manually) with FDM. This leads me to suspect that my antivirus software has nothing to do with the issue.

Finally, I just tried your advice and, unfortunately, that way of copying did not work.

I'm afraid you are wrong. There is something wrong with your system - if it's not a malware, it must be some other software monitoring clipboard. Try other suggestions:
* Use msconfig to turn off all unneeded programs from startup, restart your system and try FDM once again
* Turn off all add-ons and extensions in your browser, leave only FDM extension active and try once again.
* Uninstall your antivirus and follow my suggestions about rescue disk: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16945&p=39444#p39444

What am I wrong about, exactly? Because I know that when an anti-virus/malware program blocks something, a notice always comes up. With FDM, it doesn't, and, as stated previously, I'm able to download through it just fine; I just can't paste anything in it. I will also state again that everything was working as normal until I reinstalled it. So, I know I'm not wrong about it not having anything to do with my protection program. I also know I'm not wrong about the things I'm experiencing because...well, I'm experiencing them first-hand.

I also happen to know that it's not my system, because, for the fourth time, everything was working fine before the reinstall.

This means either one of two things: either there's something wrong with FDM or something went wrong during the installation process. The latter has happened before on one occasion - although in that one, FDM wouldn't even open the main window. A reinstall fixed that right up. Either way, the problem lies within the FDM I have on my computer, not my computer itself or the anti-virus software. This would've been clear had you been paying attention, took everything into consideration, and looked at things from a logical point of view.

I'm not a computer-illiterate moron; I've been working with these things for close to 17 years now. I know how to diagnose and fix about half the things that goes wrong with this thing from time to time.

My coming here was to see if there was another possible solution before attempting yet another reinstall. Apparently, there isn't, as your recent suggestions seem to indicate that you haven't been paying attention to all the details and I'm more than confident that these will not only fail but prove to be more troublesome to reverse when they do.

Thanks for trying, but I'm going to try installing it again. If that doesn't work, I'll have to try to find another download manager elsewhere.

You'll be happy to know that another reinstall solved my pasting issue, as expected. Hope this experience provides a potential fix for anyone who might have a similar problem.

It seems you have got problems with updating FDM extension for Firefox.

Your report was incomplete and misleading. You were wrong when ignoring the reporting rules (regarding software versions) and the FDM FAQ (regarding Firefox troubleshooting).

It seems you're still determined to ignore most of the info given in favor of giving a diagnosis that has absolutely nothing to do with what my issue was.

I'm afraid you're wrong in this instance; first, given the situation, it should be "you did wrong" (saying one was wrong means that they were incorrect in their assumption/theory/hypothesis (which, of course, I was not). Saying one did wrong is to say that their actions were incorrect, contrary to the instruction, or bad in some way). Second, I told you everything that was happening and gave you the versions of everything you asked for. It may have been incomplete at first, but that was rectified by my second post and it was never misleading. I told you exactly what was wrong, what was done to make it so, how things were before said action, and clarified some things when your initial diagnosis was off track. The fact that you outright ignored some of the crucial information that was given is not on me. So, don't say something was misleading when you were given every relevant detail and chose to dismiss some of them.

Have you read the reporting rules?
Have you tried to report all needed details?
Where is any info about your software versions before it went wrong?
What did you do that your Firefox started to crash, f.e. did you update Firefox or FDM?
Have you read the FDM FAQ about Firefox troubleshooting?
If yes, why you haven't reported version of your FDM plugin for Firefox (before and after fixing)?
Have you tried to follow suggestions described in the FDM FAQ and with what results?

If you really want to be helpful you should describe all facts and actions (step by step, with details) and only them, not your personal impressions.
If you want to be understood, you should use simple English, as many FDM users (including me) are NOT native English speakers.

I have no crystal ball and I'm not going to guess what do you mean. I know only that everybody lies (as House M.D. says), for example you have reported non existing Firefox 30.0.3 version.

No.
Yes. Repeatedly.
Software versions didn't change between the time it was working normally to when the problem occurred, so you already had that info.
Opening it. Finally got to working right when it dumped its old data.
No, because the issue was not related in any way to the Firefox extension. The mention of Firefox's crashing was to explain why I reinstalled the first time.
I looked and don't recall seeing the issue I was having, which is why I posted here.
I did.
I explained it as clearly as possible.
Non-existing as of the very recent update to 33.1; during the issue, it read as 30.0.3 in the "about" window. I did not lie. Everything was very clearly explained: "I can't paste in FDM, but can paste everywhere else. Pasting in the link box in FDM leaves a blank space". What's so confusing about that? Just from that you can immediately tell that the problem is in FDM itself. How? Because NO OTHER PROGRAMS HAD THE ISSUE. I told you this repeatedly, and your "it must be another clipboard program" theory suggested that you ignored it completely. With this knowledge alone, you should've come to 3 conclusions only: program glitch, something went wrong during install, antivirus is stopping me from doing it. Given that the last one was immediately debunked by my further clarifications, that should've only left two possible problems of the original 3. And given that this problem was apparently rare should've debunked the common glitch as well, leaving only one possible diagnosis and a very simple fix. I just wanted to see if there was another one I might've been overlooking, so I came here. Apparently, coming to a forum specifically made to help with issues related to FDM was a mistake on my part as I was greeted with overwhelming incompetence, despite my giving very clear detail, and you're still on my case long after I had resolved the issue on my own. Don't expect me back here again.

Re: Using FDM v3.8 1173 + Firefox v17.01 - too scared to upd

Postby tele1 » Mon Dec 01, 2014 1:40 am

Hello

I am Using FDM v3.8 1173 + Firefox v17.01 (Windows 7 x64) with FDM Firefox Plug in 1.5.7.6 - but I am too scared and OVERWHELMED to update EITHER FDM or Firefox or PLUG IN in fear of losing the ability to integrate with each other. I have DISABLED the update feature on Firefox using Updatefreezer and IGNORE the FDM Update but realise that this will catch up to me one day.

Right now BOTH Firefox and FDM work perfectly together - after updating firefox from v13 some time ago to v17 - I found that the FDM plug in was no longer available in later versions. The whole process of updating and compatibility became too confusing to me - so I simply STOPPED updating in favour of stability - so that is why I am STUCK with FDM v3.8 1173 + Firefox v17.01 + FDM Firefox Plug in 1.5.7.6

So I gave up trying to UPDATE. I have been using FDM since at least 2005 and have tried other downloadmanagers but NONE are as reliable, fast and integrate with Firefox better than FDM. FDM is my preferred download manager.

I have average skills on my PC and can usually figure things out by reading forums etc

I have had a look around here, read the FDM FAQ's but fairly quicky get overwhelmed and lost with the issue of Firefox and FDM (plug in). Now, I am totally confused about UPDATING and compatability as ALL THREE versions I use (FDM, Firefox + Plug In) are out of date :(

1.Can somebody please tell me what are the latest COMBINATION of versions that FDM, Firefox + Plug In that work together ? I read the topic FDM 3.9.4 and notice 3.9.4 build 1479 with Firefox Extension ver.1.6.0.8 (2014-10-15) - is it as simple as downloading that link ? What version of Firefox does that work with ? I have a x64 Windows 7 ? I notice that there COULD be compatibility issues with FDM and x64 from what BREIF reading I have done - can somebody confirm if this is the case ?

2. What is the latest version of Firefox will work with FDM FDM v3.8 1173 + FDM Firefox Plug in 1.5.7.6 ?

3. What am I missing out on with the latest version of FDM - I am so happy with FDM FDM v3.8 1173 + Plug in 1.5.7.6 - do I really need to update ?

I do not wish to lose FDM Firefox integration - I also noticed but was OVERWHELMED when I read the How to fix broken FDM plugin for Firefox installation? http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=36150#p36150

I did not want to find myself in a situation after upgrading where I could not figure out a solution - that is where the fear and overwhelming took over

I am looking for some sort of reassurance and help IF I undertake to upgrade EITHER OR Firefox, FDM + Plug in 1.5.7.6 - I would appreciate ANY assistance - I have tried to READ FAQ's and other sections here but cannot get my head around it - my APOLOGIES if I have not read the appropriate sections

Thank you
