FDM 5.1
Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
This new version has just killed Free Download Manager.
I can't believe how far a once great downloader could fall.
Bury it...

Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
I'm a believer in tight, efficient coding. There would have to be seriously good reasons for FDM to go from ~10MB to over 40MB. Furthermore, every time I've checked on the progress of FDM v5 over the last year, I've seen no hint of a reason to use this bloated release. I'm very hesitant to even install it because I don't like bloated software and FDM v5 sure seems to have all the signs of a botched job. Heck, keep it lean and do it right, even if you need to charge for it. Of course, it is hard to charge for something with Free in the title. Maybe it is time to fork this and make a version that isn't free, but is done right.

Sometimes I can choose a previous download directory, sometimes I can't.
I think maybe I can't if the download is an ftp download rather than an http one!!!?!

Actually that was wrong, but I think I finally figured out what's going on.
It appears to be that if FDM 5.1 was started by the "Launch at startup (minimized)" feature you are not allowed to choose one of your previous download destination directories. However if you start it up using the start menu (after Quitting it if already started by "Launch at startup (minimized)") you are allowed to choose one of your previous download destinations.
Since this turns out to be rather a weird problem I'd better tell you I an running the x64 version of FDM 5.1 on 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.
Fixed in 5.1.15.4266.
Thank you.

It always aborts with "File has changed on server" or similar.
It downloads fine in a web browser.
Fixed in 5.1.15.4266.
Thank you.
Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
5.1.15 is not working with Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 Build 14390.
EDIT: NVM now is working after restart PC, it's strange anyway, maybe is a bug related with the integration.

Agree Jorge,
Unfortunately, the FDM team is blindly following the latest Silicon Valley trend in dumbing down the interface to a Homer Simpson level of the lowest common denominator.
Very sad really.
Please don't panic. FDM 3 is supported for Windows, including Windows XP. FDM 5 is supported for Windows, for Mac and, in the future, for Linux.

Re: FDM 5.1 Beta
Dear Users!
The stable FDM 5 version has been released!
The issues that lead to instability have been resolved. The existing features were polished. Now, we'll have the opportunity to concentrate on adding new features that you ask for.
The changelog and download links are available at the top of this thread.

I just installed the latest FDM 5 release and I'm quite surprised by how... sparse... it is.
It looks like almost every advanced configuration option has been stripped from FDM. You can't even make it automatically delete finished downloads anymore.
Is this because FDM was a ground-up rewrite (it sure looks like one) and will you be adding the 3.9 features back in?
Is this why the 3.9 download is still available?
Will there be a lite version of FDM 5 just like FDM 3.9 - which doesn't have the torrent, video, or language packs?
Thanks!

Please, may you compare this? Thanks.
Dear User!
Many thanks for your help! We highly appreciate it.
We've found out that XDM downloaded files using several streams from the site geragera.com.br while FDM used only one stream. This caused the difference in speed. The server didn't report that it supports the multi-part download but, in fact, it did.
This problem will be fixed in the upcoming FDM release.
All issues solved in 5.1.15.4266 build! So quick, so responsive as XDM! Perfect!
Thanks for all team!
