Looks like you guy are going to have to update FDM 3.9.7 and FDM 5.1so that they will work in Firefox 57 and newer. So please look into this so you guys will be ready when it comes out and that FDM will not stop working or be deactivated. Thanks
Uh, yeah. WebExtensions API. Read more here: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2015/08 ... x-add-ons/
Note the part where it says largely compatible with the model used by Chrome and Opera...
So it shouldn't take too much time to make the change. The biggest problem will probably be writing code to check the Fx version and install the appropriate type of addon (WE-based vs non-WE-based), for all those using ESR versions of Firefox prior to v57 (which is the nightly build I am already using).
Yes, hi John!
Got a rude surprise when I tried to download my my shows last night and saw that Mozilla really screwed the pooch on that one. The Extension didn't work with Real-Debrid any more, but after the panic attack, I just reverted to the old way of doing it eg. Right Click>Copy Link Location>Add Download {inside the main window via R-D}> then OK in the dialogue box.
Still using 3.9.7 1636. So will be awaiting your Extension update with bated breath but as K-Meleon browser has been resurrected, I am slowly migrating my Firefox needs/uses to K-M and so far the current one still seems to work with Tor. So could you also make it compatible with KM? Please? I may even do a dual migration, Classic Theme Restorer still works on Tor for now, but not needed for KM and KM has its own no javascript and ad block features.
Thank You for reading. {FF portable 55.0.1} In fact, my most used applications are John Haller's portable versions, makes it easier when I build a new Windoze box, don't have to waste time re-installing and configuring and backups are as easy as making a simple copy from one removable media to another.
EDIT: 2017 08 16 14:00 The FF extension seems to be working normally again for me.
Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
OK, a couple of points to be made:
1) The move to WebExtensions has been known about for more than a year, with developers being told two years ago that they had until November 2017 to update their addons to use the WebExtensions API model for future versions of Firefox, starting with ver 57. It's not like thy sprung this on developers in the last week or even month, last quarter, or even the last year. For reference, read this blog post by Mozilla from 2 years ago:
https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2015/08 ... x-add-ons/
I've been following this for a while now because I am a huge Firefox advocate, preferring to use it over all other browsers, and have been for a very long time, since the days of Netscape 3. I knew this was coming, but was still irked when it hit me so quickly in the nightly builds, as I wasn't ready for an αlpha build of Firefox to start using WE APIs yet - I had forgotten the time was nigh.
The main reason I have been following so closely is that one particular Fx addon dev, quicksilver, is abandoning is addons because he doesn't have the time to convert them to the WE API model from the current addon methodology.
After the above post by Mozilla, In Jan or Feb of 2016, I believe, he posted the following blog:
http://fasezero.com/addons/
But, again, let's be fair - Mozilla warned the community 2 years ago that this was coming.
2) I am not in anyway associated with FDM or the fine folks here, other than being an enthusiast of FDM and using it on my computers every time I can.
Now as for you saying that the addon is working again - that is with v 3.x and Fx portable version <=56.x?

One other thing - You can, currently, still force the use of what mozilla is calling 'legacy addons' in the current 57 nightly build.
See http://tabmixplus.org/forum/viewtopic.p ... 378#p72378 for more information. Reply to my post here if you need help with this setting in Firefox.
Note - this is only needed for Firefox Nightly builds version 57.x - IOW, you do not need to do this if your version of Fx is < 57.x.

Sorry, I thought you were, as you reply to so many, and yes, 3.9.7 build 1636 and Fx portable 55.0.1, which is a little behind the desktop version. Well, the heart attack in late 2015 and fighting for disability support consumed much of my time, over in sevenforums under the avatar it reads "Geek since 1980" but I'm finding this old dog is stumbling on learning new tricks. Classic Theme Restorer for Fx may be a bit of a dead duck, as I've used it to resemble Fx 2.0 since it came out, but with curved tabs and Mozilla's changes will kill it. I see my only out as being to preserve the current Firefox to another removable, delete it from the PA suite, install the ESR, then after all the other tweeks, move key3.db and logins.json to the ESR's fresh profile after the "Saved Passwords" extension has been loaded [which was built-in but removed around v30 or something] and hope for the best. In the past I would just have moved the profile folders, but since 55 would alter the old one, patching a fresh profile looks like the only thing to do but that would delay the inevitable for just a year. Migrate or hope more pressure on Mozilla will change their minds. More input from CTR's author over at Mozillazine.

.
I stay away from the Nightlies, will muddle with 55.0.1 but cranked up NoScript, AdblockPlus, TinyWall and AVG's Resident Shield because until I get ESR configured, won't be getting security updates. Might use Tor as my daily, though it is not meant to preserve sessions after a close but there must be a way around that, passwords will be the trickiest part of jumping to a new browser. Though I pretty well stay to the same nine sites and don't stray into dangerous waters any more. Here's hoping Mozilla doesn't cock-up Thunderbird as well, with all my accounts, it will take months to move to another e-mail client, now I'm going off-topic....sorry! Apologies to Clive and the rest of the FDM team. Still need to know if I'll need to re-install FDM desktop or portable to get the old extension into a new Fx compatible browser, like Tor or Pale Moon or if I make the new one default, will the ext install with a dialogue box popping up?

Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
major SLEEP bug in free download manager. Free download manager tried to download a torrent as you don't allow us to disable torrent functionality (which you need to!) and there are no seeders. The download therefore shows the pause symbol. As a result my laptop no longer goes to sleep if "don't put your computer to sleep if there is an active download" is enabled even though the torrent is not downloading.
Not only that i can't manually put the computer to sleep either the screen just goes black with the laptop still running and any movement of the mouse will enable the screen instantly.
Please give us a way to disable torrent functionality completely in FDM, i don't want to have to blacklist every torrent site individually. Please allow users to manually put their computers to sleep even if "don't put your computer to sleep if there is an active download" is enabled or at the very least bring a popup message saying "ubuntu linux.iso" is still downloading are you sure you want to put the computer in sleep mode?". Also torrents that have are not actually downloading data from preventing your computer from going to sleep.
Another person posted a bug (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17690) that FDM can't download age restricted videos, you asked for a screenshot of the error message. Here is the error message: "Parsing Error: Authentication Required", here is an example video for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbX6-IkxBkc It requires users login in order to download a video. You will probably need to embed a username and password in to FDM to let users download age restricted videos but only to use that username and password for age restricted videos otherwise it could block geographically blocked videos for certain countries.

Links:
Any torrent download from nyaa.se
For example https://www.nyaa.se/?page=download&tid=920437
Versions:
All recent versions of FDM 5.1 (up to 5.1.26)
Most of the recent versions of Firefox x64 (up to 53)
One laptop and one desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64
The link does not open. Perhaps this tracker does not give a direct link to the torrent file. Then neither the browser nor FDM can know what kind of file it is until FDM receives the information about the link. Do you have any examples from other trackers?

Clive

Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
Everything is OK now, Have FxESR made default, passwords and bookmarks installed, Fx regular now a test bed for the Mozilla changes and edited the latter's .ini to allow multiple instances, copied to 55.0.x's root. Other concerns re-directed to Mozillazine. The few questions I have left pertain to alternatives and will place them into {hopefully} the more appropriate sub-forum. The extension even installed itself into ESR after a couple of restarts.
EDIT: Almost migrated to QupZilla....now called Falkon; no extension necessary and looks like good 'ole Firefox 3.x!
http://blog.qupzilla.com/2017/08/qupzil ... mment-form
Has option within preference area to work with external download managers, just need to point to the executable,
in your case, fdm.exe and it works just like FF FDM Ext 2.2.3. May even try FDM5 but happy with performance of 3.9.7 build 1636 so far.

Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
I am really newbie here and The forum is too difficult to use as I spent 4 hours searching how to fix my issues but couldn't find any right answer.
1.How can i block any sites such as hbd-cm ?
2.How can I get rid of SUBFOLDER without wasting time to uncheck what I don't need ?
3.will it become worse and worse in future?
4.How to get rid of useless Free Download Manager Extension
Now I have to use other extension to get the link which I want to download so your own extension is really useless and I don't see the point to have it on extensions list.
5.Is it suitable to use old stable version of free download manager on latest Firefox?
Sorry for my bad English and i hope someone can help me with all those issues

Hello. When will the webextension version of FDM's extension for Firefox will be released? Firefox 57 will not load non-webextensions and it is already in beta.

That tracker has since been taken down by the author a while ago. I have not experienced this problem since then probably because all newer trackers use magnet links. (but I do sometimes get an issue most likely unrelated to FDM where clicking links in other applications will not open any browser until a reboot.)
Version 5.1.32 finally fixes the issues I was having with SourceForge so now I don't have to report on that either
Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
Hi!) And what situation with FDM 3.9.7 webextention addon?
Re: PLEASE put up all FDM and Firefox problems here!
Hi. i admire what you guys do. Recently I have been having problems downloading some videos in youtube on the latest FDM 5.1.32.6573. It displays:
Parsing failure: failed to initialize deciphering context
i would be greatfull if resloved. thanks.

I've been having the same issue (as above) of late too, except on Chrome. Not sure if they have changed Youtube functionality.
