Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
FDM plugin version 1.5.7.6 is available only with current FDM installer.General Public wrote: However, you should get the version that is fixed (I think 1.5.7.6) out on Mozilla Update, so we can get rid of this annoying message from Firefox about it being blocked. Or maybe put out a new version of the 3.9.1 beta that comes with the updated Firefox plugin.
I have already warned that there should NOT be separate FDM plugin available. Read "Separate download of FDM plugin for Firefox" topic. Follow the links to older topics as well. Your report is another confirmation that separate plugin makes only more problems and confusions, it's just a mess. I think FDM plugin should be removed from Mozilla site.
I have also explained how to deal with broken FDM plugin. Read here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16242&p=36039#p36039

Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Got the "Free Download Manager has been blocked for your protection" message.
So, I Disabled Flashgot and removed the FDM plugin 1.5.7.5,
Closed Firefox. Cache deleted. Completely Uninstalled FDM 1249
installed FDM 3.9.1 beta build 1268, and deleted the "Free Download Manager\Firefox\Extensions" folder (which has not returned). Changed the settings to suit the way I use FDM, however, when I selected "Firefox" in the "Monitoring" section and pressed "OK", I got the following error dialog:
Error: Can't install Firefox monitoring
So that is where I am stuck now.
Upon startup, Firefox does not "inform you that a new addon is installed and ask you to confirm it", and therefore it is not recognized by firefox
Fortunately, not only did I back up the profile before I tried to upgrade to FDM 3.9.1 build 1268, I also have several other Firefox profiles as well.
If I open Firefox using one off these other profiles, and then go back to the FDM settings, I am then permitted to select "Firefox" in the monitoring section with no error message, and everything is fine.
The other profiles work with FDM as usual, even though they still show the FDM 1.5.7.5 plugin in "extentions"; furthermore, using these profiles, I have not yet received the message from Mozilla advising to disable FDM.
However, If I switch back to the previously upgraded profile, and then go back to the FDM settings, the "Firefox" checkbox in the monitoring section has been automatically "unchecked", & I once again get the "Can't install Firefox monitoring" error message when trying to activate it.
What have I done wrong? Please let me know if you need more info.
edit: turns out that restoring my backup profile did not help - even tho I was now able to enable firefox monitoring in the fdm setting for this profile, the subsequently launched browser would not let me enable the plugin in "extensions"
But I went to "Profile\extensions\fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org", edited install.rdf"; changed max version to 20, changed plugin from 1.5.7.5 to 1.5.7.6 and restarted the browser.
Working ok now as far as I can tell. Now shows enabled FDM plugin 1.5.7.6 in extensions
Still would like to have it done the right way tho.
thx

You did NOT remove it. See below.nolan_vode wrote:Got the "Free Download Manager has been blocked for your protection" message.

Wrong. That way you deleted FDM plugin 1.5.7.6.nolan_vode wrote:Closed Firefox. Cache deleted. Completely Uninstalled FDM 1249

You can't do it because:nolan_vode wrote:Changed the settings to suit the way I use FDM, however, when I selected "Firefox" in the "Monitoring" section and pressed "OK", I got the following error dialog:
Error: Can't install Firefox monitoring
- you did NOT remove FDM plugin 1.5.7.5 from your Firefox profile;
- you deleted FDM plugin 1.5.7.6 from your FDM directory.
Of course it did NOT. When restoring older Firefox profile you are restoring broken FDM plugin 1.5.7.5 also.nolan_vode wrote:edit: turns out that restoring my backup profile did not help - even tho I was now able to enable firefox monitoring in the fdm setting for this profile, the subsequently launched browser would not let me enable the plugin in "extensions"

So where do you get the real FDM Plugin - 1.5.7.6?
I uninstalled and then downloaded and installed again, but stilll no joy.

Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Current FDM plugin (now 1.5.7.6) is supplied with current FDM installer (now FDM 3.9.1 beta build 1268) and it is installed in "Free Download Manager\Firefox" subdirectory. You can find path to this plugin in fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org file located in your Firefox profile in extensions subdirectory, when you turn on Firefox monitoring in FDM.Guest wrote:So where do you get the real FDM Plugin - 1.5.7.6?

Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Thank you Usher, the rules from FAQ worked in getting me Firefox Plugin version 1.5.7.6. I already had the newest Firefox (17.0) and newest Free Download Manager (3.9.1 build 1268) but was stuck with the old plugin, version 1.5.7.5. Here is how I fixed it:
1. I went to Firefox Addons in Firefox, found the Free Download Manager Plugin, and clicked the "Remove" button to get rid of it.
2. I restarted Firefox and now the Free Download Manager Plugin was gone from the list of Addons.
3. I closed Firefox.
4. I opened Free Download Manager and went to Options and under Monitoring I enabled Firefox.
5. I opened Firefox and told it to allow the installation of Free Download Manager Plugin version 1.5.7.6.
6. Now I have Free Download Manager Plugin version 1.5.7.6 in Firefox and no longer get the warning from Firefox telling me the plugin is blocked, like I did with version 1.5.7.5.
There are a lot more steps in the rules from FAQ that you linked to but for me this was all that was needed to fix it.
So I guess someone should contact the people at Mozilla and get them to fix the error message right here so that it tells people how to fix it, perhaps by linking to Usher's instructions on how to fix it in these forums, or maybe listing the instructions right on that web page that says the plugin is blocked. I think since you have instructions on how to get the latest version of the plugin, the folks at Mozilla ought to link to it and tell people how to do it, instead of not telling people how to solve the problem once people get the error message. Because just giving people that error message but not telling them how to fix it is very unhelpful of Mozilla to do, that's why I came here to these forums to ask what to do, because Mozilla didn't give any instructions on how to fix it, they just gave me an error message on that page with no real solution. If you have an outdated version of the Flash Player or QuickTime or whatever and go to Mozilla's Plugin Check page they give you the solution and link directly to where to download the update, so I think they could do the same thing here.

Everything is good now. Please let me explain, because it might be helpful to a few like me.
Initially, I thought I followed all your instructions correctly, but they didn't work for me.
After removing the 1.5.7.5 plugin, and then uninstalling/reinstalling FDM 1268 several times, FDM still would not allow me to enable monitoring for Firefox.
Only after several tries, did I then try to remove the Free Download Manager/Firefox/extension folder, which was a mistake, as you pointed out; I misunderstood which directory to remove it from, which I finally realized. However, there was no "fdm_ffext@freedownloadmanager.org" in my profile\extensions directory after uninstalling FDM.
So, I figured that reinstalling FDM would restore the Free Download Manager/Firefox/extension directory, but that did not happen. It was left empty.
My only clue to what was happening was the behavior of my other profiles (which all had the old FDM plugin installed) in comparison to the one I was trying to fix, as my previously post explained.
As soon as I disabled my other profiles (be careful; deleted from the profiles list, but no file deletion), everything went back to normal.
I then removed the plugin I previously altered from the Firefox addon list, and uninstalled/reinstalled FDM.
My FDM/Firefox/extension folder was restored; I enabled monitoring of Firefox, launched the browser, and was prompted to install the plugin. Voila. I then reactivated my other profiles, one by one, and fixed them as well.
So, my only conclusion, unless I missed something else along the way, is that multiple Firefox profiles, and the way they are recognized by FDM, in a case such as this, cause a conflict with each other.
Maybe, maybe not, but whatever I did allowed me to install the plugin properly and solve the problem the right way.
Thanks for the help
Re: Free Download Manager FireFox plugin
Thanks for the info. Now FAQ recommend to remove broken/unneeded plugin from all Firefox profiles.nolan_vode wrote:So, my only conclusion, unless I missed something else along the way, is that multiple Firefox profiles, and the way they are recognized by FDM, in a case such as this, cause a conflict with each other.

Once again I strongly recommend to remove standalone FDM plugin from Firefox addons website, at least until FDM developers fix all listed below issues:vaneo wrote:Hi!

1. FDM plugin is NOT a complete standalone solution, but it may be installed also by people that use older (incompatible) FDM versions or that don't use FDM at all. It is BAD.
2. FDM installer and FDM are NOT aware of FDM plugin installed standalone. They don't delete FDM plugin from Firefox user profile when installing a new FDM version or when turning on Firefox monitoring. It is BAD.
3. FDM standalone plugin may be installed also by people that use other Firefox-based browsers (Iceweasel, Pale Moon etc., see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:W ... on_Firefox ), but FDM has NO official support for those browsers. It is BAD.
As you see FDM standalone plugin is a source of many problems or misunderstandings and I'm NOT going to repeat my explanations every time someone will complain here again.

Actually Firefox browser will update it automatically but for those users who have not been auto updated, plugin is available at:

P.s You can adjust plugin auto updating at Firefox->Add-ons->Extensions->Free Download Manager plugin Settings
thanks a lot man
