Way to force FDM to be used every time with Firefox?

Postby Clutch Cargo » Tue May 18, 2021 5:43 pm

Is there a way to force FDM to be used when downloading. Sometimes FDM is used and sometimes not? I have the Firefox extension installed if that makes a difference but it is still a hit-n-miss sometimes.

Thanks... luv the app.

No way. It's described in known issues:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17900
and in FDM FAQ:

You have to make sure your addon is active for FDM to work. If not then it will not use FDM when you click a download link or a popup link. Did you check on that. This is what I do for FF and Chrome so it doesn't catch links I don't want them to catch until I am ready then I turn on the Plugin.

It doesn't catch all links in Firefox, that is for sure. Because Fx itself doesn't catch all links like it should.

Thx for the replies guys. Thought it was something on my end. So it's a known issue. Maybe there could be some work around Like the user is allowed to input the site's path and added to a list to force FDM to be used? Or maybe there is something the Web manager can do if we contct them? Just a thought. For example I am using this flightsim hobby site and am having no luck in case someone cares to take a looksy?

https://flightsim.to/

Thanks again. Still really like the app.

Hello,
There is no such feature. I would recommend you to use some supported Chromium based browser if you want FDM to be able to always catch your downloads. These browsers are: Google Chrome, Opera, Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi, Brave (the order I've named them is random).

It is because of the way that the devs of the site have decided to offer downloads. It worked perfectly fine in Chrome, though.

https://flightsim.to/download/elisuperf ... miti/15204

I was able to open that in Chrome, and after the countdown FDM opened and started downloading.

As Alex said above - pick a Chromium-based browser and you're good to go.

FWIW - I use Firefox Nightly, and have for a long, long time, as my default, go-to daily driver browser. But, I also have Chrome, Edge and Brave installed just in case I run into a badly coded site that doesn't play well with Firefox. No one is saying use Chrome all the time - or Edge, or Brave, etc. But for downloads that don't work in Fx, use one of them.

To make it easier, I also use Browser Chooser to pick which browser to open links in from apps and such, and it is pretty extensible - or example, you can force links form a particular site to always open in a particular browser. This might benefit you in that all links from your sim site can be forced to open in a non-Firefox browser, streamlining your workflow.

I have both plugins installed and update on Chrome and FireFox but I disable them when using the Browser as it catches site and links I don't want it to download until I am ready.

Doesn't matter how you do it - Firefox simply doesn't parse some files correctly, no matter what.

Then what site are you referring to then? If no one can go there to figure what is happening then no one is going to know what is going on.
