can't see video on FDM

I'm new to FDM only just downloaded the program today. I have been trying to download video files from various places just to test the software including Youtube, Rapidshare and Torrent files. I notice that the files are downloaded into FDM but i can't see the videos even after i select the file and click on the play button. Can you please explain how i can actually view the video files i download.
