That enables older add-ons to be used with Firefox 4.

Correct. Installing this add-on for the Firefox 4 Beta allows installing of add-ons that are not marked compatible with it, and then you can test functionality. Additionally, if something does not work, you can submit a report that (theoretically) should go back to the developer to assist them in fixing add-ons that are not working 100% correctly with Firefox 4 Beta.

However, Alex, and all, I can say that the latest 3.3 Build 852 works perfectly fine with Fx 4 Beta 1 as of right now, with the Add-on Compatibility Reporter installed, and I already sent a report that it works.

Now off to try this new 4.3 Beta build 909 :D

The FDM add-on for Firefox has stopped working since I installed Firefox 4 Beta 2. It worked fine with Firefox 4 Beta 1. I've installed the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, but this time it doesn't help. Any solutions?

If you want to use FDM with Firefox 4.0 Beta 2, you can use FlashGot until FDM addon is compatibility with Firefox 4.

Sorry, I was not logged in for my last post (2 up, report on Fx 4b2) - b/c 4b2 broke a lot of extensions / addons that I use.

@Akirayjin - thanks - I actually knew that, was just pointing out that 4b2 changes things significantly b/c 4b1 allows the FDM addon to work whereas 4b2 does not, even with Application Compatibility reporter installed.

Just some thoughts,
It gives the idea that Alex is the only one working on the development of FDM.
The development is very slow. Last beta version was release almost 2 months ago! It looks like FDM 3.4 ain’t getting out of Beta stage.
It also gives the idea that developers do not use FDM at all, since the FLV download was obsolete for too long!
This is costing FDM allot of users.
You should update the site and blog, give more insight info of what is being done.

This problem persist already for a very long time. After unconditional system reboot or BSOD when FDM is running, it's always forget some settings. Mainly i mean "Default folder" option in Group properties window. Also FDM always restores the default set of groups (Music, Software, Video...)

It's very annoying. Please, do something!

You should fix your system. There is no reason for reboot or BSOD when your system works OK.

If you cannot find "Auto save" in FDM menu Options | Settings | General | Miscellaneous | Advanced, you do not use FDM 3.4 beta. You should install at least FDM 3.0 from Sourceforge.

Do it yourself, please. And always inform about your OS, file system, browser and FDM version.

How often do you change settings? Groups' settings are stored in the file on your hard drive. Such reboots or BSOD can lead to losing of some files including this one. Try to check your hard drive with scandisk.
FDM stores its data files in %appdata%\Free Download Manager folder. You may back up them manually and restore then in such cases.

Hi,
I'm the one who reported the IE Protected mode issue on the first page (which was fixed). After using the new beta for awhile, I think I don't link the "new" way of letting IE download if canceled from FDM at all. For one, there is no taskbar indicator (Windows 7) anymore since it is not a standard IE download dialog. Another thing was since FDM does not support unicode (a feature I would request, but I saw others already did), the filename is messed up even if I let IE download it (after canceled from FDM). Could you please revert back to how FDM 3.0 and before behave? Is there any reason why you've changed it?

Also, FDM won't pick up avi or mp4 or wmv. I would guess it won't pick up any known video file type. Pretty sure this is not the case with 3.4 alpha or 3.0.

Thanks again for awesome software.

Are you gonna release some hotfix version in order to fix Firefox 4 Beta 2 and never incompatibility issue?

More likely a newer version once Fx 4 goes into the RC stages, would be my guess.

Dream on, johnlgalt...

It seems that Free Download Manager has almost completely stopped its development, which is a pity since it is (was?) the best download manager available. Its issues with respect to newer browser versions have never been adequately solved.

Instead of introducing new capabilities such as torrent (it can never compete with µTorrent) the developer(s) should instead improve and correct what formerly worked exceedingly well.

In the past, FDM used to publish a new version almost weekly, which was a little exaggerated. But now, on the other hand, it is virtually dead.

Maybe the developers have better things to do with their lives, I can understand that. But if they cannot continue the development, they could at least try to engage people with the expertise to carry on the work. As I said in a previous message, FDM is a very valuable software to be abandoned.
