Hey guys,

I updated my FDM version to latest one from 5.8 series yesterday & the font looks so disturbing for the eyes. As if its fading away.


I checked if I could change anything in preferences but nada, the only option is to switch between Light & Dark modes.

Is there something could be done or do I need to go back to previous stable release ?

Thanks for letting us know. We never saw this happen before.
1. Please save screenshots in PNG format and post here again. PNG is a lossless format. JPEG is not enough here.
2. Please let us know something about your system config. The best would be for you to send us your System Information (save it in the file, upload somewhere and post the link here of to me via the private message). Or at least tell us your Windows version, graphic card specs, installed directx version.

32 bit, Windows 7
Direct X 11

I tried reinstalling FDM after uninstalling - assuming I accidentally downloaded & installed 64 bit version but nope. No changes.

This is not PNG. This is the same JPEG saved as PNG.

those are PNG, they are screenshots from my laptop. Which I cropped & saved via Paint.

If you looked the images closely, they are different ones. Look at the area around Free Download Manager written area - I don't recall what its called - taskbar ? , you see a different background for both the images. First one has a a greyish/whitish background while the newer one has blackish - that's because of the different programs I was running in the background.

here's the image again, with using Paint in the background software, all the 3 screenshots have been taken at different instances.


For the second screenshot - its more clearly visible, it has multiple colors in its taskbar.


This the same method I have used for ages even for my work purposes.

I'm afraid your laptop is overheating and your graphic card will die soon.
Some more questions:
What about screen size? Is it native resolution or other resolution rescaled?
What about font scaling in your system? Is it 100% or fonts are resized to some non-standard value?
What about font antialiasing (ClearType settings)?

I didn't have any issue until I'd updated FDM to 6.x series.
I don't think I have a dedicated Graphic Card, its an old system- Core2Duo, have been using it for over 6 years & never even had to format once. Its Intel 4 Series Express Chipset family


resolution - 1360*768, Orientation - Landscape
Fonts & all other settings are default - 100%, haven't changed anything.

I have no clue about this ClearType settings, never touched them before.

I have resorted back to 5.x series & have no problems with the fonts




only the 6.8 seems to be giving the eye strain.

I really like the program, but so far I love the old version. it is impossible to use a new one because the eyes hurt from the font

I suspect that FDM uses default fonts set by the Qt Framework. FDM 6 uses newer Qt version.

Hello, complaints about the fonts have been coming in. We'll see what can be done.

Hello, the new font is bolder and possibly less legible. I think need to replace the bold on normal font.
