FDM Extension is not able to connect brave

Postby shahidx » Mon Aug 30, 2021 4:02 am

Hello,

I can't seem to make it work on Brave. It works on Chrome and Firefox on the same laptop but not on brave. When I inspect the background page in developer mode, it shows the below message in the console.

Specified native messaging host not found.
nativehostmgr.js:202 Free Download Manager installation not found. Please install it

Hello, this issue still exists and I was about to make a new topic but I found this, the FDM extensions works on Windows (I also use Brave) and does things fine, but on Linux the FDM extension refuses to work with the same error,
``Specified native messaging host not found.`` and a message saying FDM is not installed, I have installed FDM fine and did manual downloads from it which works.

FDM App: (installed from AUR)
Version: 6.15.3.4236 (4731f7d4)
Qt 5.12.11
OpenSSL 1.1.1L
FFmpeg 4.4.1
Libtorrent 1.1.14.0
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/freedownloadmanager/

I want to note that I already told this to FDM support months ago, they said they would fix it but they never did

After further checking, it seems like the cause is because the native host messaging json file was not placed at the system-wide/user-wide native messaging host folders

Hello,
Thank you for reporting it. It seems that they have added their own folder for this and stopped using Google Chrome's one. We'll fix this in the next update of FDM.

As a workaround, you can manually copy this file from ~/.config/google-chrome/NativeMessagingHosts/org.freedownloadmanager.fdm5.cnh.json to ~./config/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/NativeMessagingHosts/org.freedownloadmanager.fdm5.cnh.json.
Don't forget to restart Brave browser.

Hello, thank you for responding, the extension now works, the bug I have been experiencing for months has been fixed and now I can use the manager as I would in Windows
