thanks for replying on my problem..

i'm basically downloading torrents from yify torrents site or kickass torrents..

computer is left on.. no other application is running..

previously this was working fine but now sometimes I get error messages when fdm is running.. what seemed to me that if somehow connection is not there or there is any interruption then it throws err (this is again my assumption, I can be wrong).

pls let me know if more details are needed..

I just started having a problem in Firefox where I right click on a video file (mp4,avi,mkv etc) and then click on "Download with Free Download Manager", FDM doesn't start up for download and Firefox tries to play the video file.

I tested with other types of files (exe, pdf, cbr etc) and it works fine.

I have done some of recommendations on the forums but nothing seems to work.
I have upgraded Firefox to 25 Beta and FDM to 3.9.3 1360.

It works okay with IE. But Firefox has the problem.
If I click download ALL with FDM that works.

If I setup clipboard monitoring that works.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I just upgraded and am having exactly the same issue on 2 sites Internet archive search ..archive.org i believe, and free classic movies.com both have begun to act totally differently when right click to download a public domain movie. On the former, ff25 just starts to play the movie when i click to download it. on the latter, it just pops up a message to use the save target link.which bypasses fdm, totally and forces the browser downloader to take over in background. If i right click and open in new tab it will pop up fdm for some reason and i can download with it that way. but on that site.
i had tried to make changes in both fdm and ff so, i am making matters worse by changing options and forgetting which i altered , as usual.

I have updated to the latest build today and have problems with public domain video downloads, in ff24 and 25 since i up dated both today. I am no longer able to click on a video file and have it download, it plays in a new tab or same tab. any torrent file is just the same. it is with the single video files and i have this problem on archives.org and a different problem on another public domain video site: free download classics.com. there i had been able to right click on a video file and have free download manaager open and work. now it will not allow this at all, it seems to only accept the built in download mgr . if i right click and choose to open in a new tab, then rather than open a tab, it pops up the fdm downloader and works ok like that.
I am ready to go back to the 1359, which is where it was prior to this bump to 1360
also, ff stopped signing me in automatically so a post as guest appeared above
John
PS
I added an add on 'Right to Click' with the suggested default options, to disable java script handlers and now i am able to do the right click on 'download with fdm' and have it not get sent to play the movie instead of download it.
so,it must be some java thing or other that keeps fdm from opening now when i try to right click to choose it or left click on it, since i have fdm set as the default downloader, it had worked with the left click as well.
John
PS
'download them all' right click comes up properly but filter does not work. it will not filter out the proper .mpeg etc types leaves blank. and download video will only download the playing video anyway, not the hyper link. and download or open tab both start playing the video in a tab, or window whichever is default.

The video downloader plugin v1.6.0 of FDM seems to complete the download of large videos by doing several parts simultaneously. However, when I start playing the saved video it hangs right at about 10% and sometimes even lower. This is common when the video is about 20 mins long and the total file size is more than 50MB. Somehow, the parts aren't 'stitched' or put together properly. Has anybody else encountered this problem?

Download Helper and the Ant Video Downloader add-ons seem to be doing better but they download the videos sequentially (from beginning to end) so they're slow.

I'm using the latest versions of everything:
FF v26.0
Flash Player 11.9.900.117
FDM 3.9.3 build 1359
Java SE7 U45
Windows 7 64-bit

I have found a way to get fdm to pop up on one video download site for public domain movies free. Instead of using the hyperlinks as before to download different formats-the torrrent hyperlink works others dont- i have right clicked on the flash or embedded video on the page and used fdm 'download video' and an option box comes up with the , in this case, 2 formats that were available . i was able to deselect the one i didnt want. saves some drive space, since downloading the torrent may have 4 different formats and 4 or more GB and saves having to delete what i dont need.
I have 'right to click' and tab mix plus in ff25 at the moment.
PS
should have noted:
fdm1360
and flash , java all latest as of 5Nov2013 as well as amdCCC13.11b win7x64 ultimate

An example URL? I have no issues with it here....

vonly wrote:Kindly note that I have upgraded to latest version i.e. build 1359... But it is crashing a lot.. I hv sent several error reports also..

What I understand is that when internet connectivity is not there/broken then it straight away throws error (I might be wrong in this assumption but this what I could figure out)..

can you pls look into this and advs..

i'm trying this on win 7 pro, 64 bit.. it throws error while downloading torrents..

if u need any more details then let me know..

BTW, thanks for providing magnet support, long awaited feature, finally I can remove utorrent !!

Is this error seen *only* when you try torrents, or also http downloads?

I have the exact same problem. I have noticed when I right click there is a new option for FDM in Firefox. Previously it was just Download with FDM or Download all with FDM. There is now a third option called Download Video with FDM.

Previously if I selected Download with FDM the download would open in FDM, now a new tab opens in Firefox and the video starts playing.

If I select the download video option FDM tries to create a flash video. The only way I have found around this is to right click on the url, copy it's location, go to FDM, click new download and the url is there waiting for me.

I have been getting those same issues, glad to hear it isnt just me. I sometimes can use the 'download video with fdm' and get a box with one of the video options (mp4, avi, ogv, etc) , sometimes i will get a choice from between 2 or among 3 or more if there are that many posted. other times i get an error message 'to open the flash' or flash must be running to download.
the other download all, download with fdm, open up a new tab and try to play the video file in qt , which is a browser plug in. the only option is to use the browser to download with 'save link as' . it is different on the same site with different video uploads i want to download. i have had to use the browser in more than half of my download attempts. other times i can find one way to download my choice of formats without using the magnet thing or torrent. torrent always works. but i have to take all the added things and all formats. this is with the latest 1360 build and ff plug in , ff25 and 26beta now.

In newer plugins the code to catch download links was changed. I manually patched my FF plugin back to the old code and I now can download all filetypes with FDM again.

The patch is pretty simple:
1. Go to your FDM install directory.
2. Then go to the "Firefox\extension\chrome\content\" subdirectory.
3. Open the file "fdm_ffext.js" with notepad.
4. Replace the existing near line 200

Code: Select all

function freeDldMgr_dllink ()
{
  if (document.popupNode instanceof HTMLAnchorElement)
    document.popupNode.click();
  else
    freeDldMgr_dlURL (freeDldMgr_getURL (document.popupNode));
}

with

Code: Select all

function freeDldMgr_dllink ()
{
    freeDldMgr_dlURL (freeDldMgr_getURL (document.popupNode));
}

I don't know why this code was changed originally, so this could break something else.
