FDM on linux slows down power off / reboot

Postby abdulhalim » Wed Apr 14, 2021 4:06 am

Hello guys,

I have a problem with FDM in Linux, I tested on Pop_OS! , Linux Mint, Elementary OS, When I install FDM the power off and restart process take time too complete, I have to wait about 2 minutes for restarting or shutting down PC, but without FDM it takes 2-3 secs to process.

Anyone has such a problem here??

Regards,

How many torrents do you have on your download lists? What is the total size of all the downloads?

Hello Usher,

There is no difference that if the list is full or empty, Actually I test with a queued list and empty list, Also before shutdown or restart I completely exit from FDM, by quitting from FDM and by XKILL, And the problem is persisted

So there may be some hardware dependent problems. Users reported problems with graphic card drivers, maybe it's something wrong with power management or SSD drivers in your case? I have no such problems with FDM on Linux Mint.

I have an SSD drive, and the graphic is intel on board, I am not pro in Linux, I recently migrated from Windows to Linux (6 months ago) but I guess FDM manipulates the cron jobs system and causes the problem.

Anyway thank you for replying :)

ISTR similar behavior before when I tested FDM binaries in Sabayon Linux (and Gentoo as well) on my old rig. If the binary was active, it took a while to shutdown / reboot the machine. If I killed the FDM binary from running in the background, it went super quick.

The above-mentioned installs were on older hardware, with fully designed and compiled kernel for my specific hardware (not a generic kernel like in widely used distros like Ubuntu, etc.), so I know it was not a hardware issue - CPU, RAM and mobo were original from 2011, these tests were done less than 2 years ago - only GPU was newer, GTX 970 and main system drive was a SATA III SSD. I spent a lot of time configuring that kernel and making sure I had everything I needed built-in, so there was a very, very small time used for the HAL to figure out if it needed any extra modules to be loaded, allowing for a much faster boot / load time. So, I'm relatively sure it was *not* an incompatibility with the configuration.

I have not gotten around to reinstalling Sabayon (on my new rig) because they (Sabayon dev team) are in the midst of a transition to a new name and branding (Mocaccino), but their last builds are still active and can be downloaded, so I have done so. I will try to make a new VM of Sabayon and test the latest Linux builds, but I suspect this is the case because of the way I was required to get them working on Sabayon in the first place (using a Gentoo 'app' to allow the use of .deb files on Gentoo-based distros.

Just here to report, the latest version of FDM on Pop_OS 21.04 works fine.
Everything is great.
Thank you
