well one thing is freedownloadmanager seems to be a pretty generic name. might i suggest changing the name of this project to something more unique? (=
yeah and what's next? changing the name from firefox (again) to something "more unique" just because some smart head thinks it could be a good idea to use this well known name to guide more people to their own site.
in case of freedownloadmanager.com it's pretty lame from these reget.com people. is their product really that bad that they need such tricks?
anyway, i guess umbra were talking about real fakes, not copy cats.

Ok, first of I second the proposal of changing the project name, I understand that this is like asking somebody to change his/her little kid's name but being honest the name is a little generic. The name 'Firefox' is already quite unique, imagine it was called 'Free web browser' instead?
I love the project, and as so I want it to be more widely known and recognized just like Mozilla is, that is the reason I suggest the name change.
and... I also agree to add a self contained sha1sum during install.

Change the Name?

Change the name?
Don't be daft!!
The program has a name and it's a great name.
To bad if it has the word free in it and that is somehow not good to some people...? Why?
anyway as long as people only download it from here or reputable sites like download.com, filehippo or sourceforge then there is no problem.
Having an SHA and other hashes on the page would help but only those who actually know what to do with them!
'FDM' is a great shortened name and is also what this program is known as. I see no problem with that at all.
As for the guy who downloaded a 'modded version' on a chinese site then sorry pal...you were asking for trouble there so you got a virus. You hopefully will have learned from that silliness!
One thing, what is going on here with all these posts from guests just quoting the original post and saying nothing...?
Seems like the forum is filled with redundant posts.

Mmm, and how many browsers will download something and then check the CRC matches?
I'm a geek at heart, and I have seen stuff with MD5 hashes next to it, but I am not aware of how to verify such codes. I guess I could Google, but it'd be much easier if this was automated. Firefox? Don't think so. MSIE? I hardly use that anyway... FDM? Can virus check and integrity check, but not aware of an MD5/CRC verification.
