Scooby wrote:1.) If I use the function "Check for updates" in 3.8B1106, I get the message "You are using the newest version". But B1142 is already out. I made some bad experience at other programs with manually downloading and updating. I better wait for the next release, so I can update the version from the "help menue - check for update" function.

It was already explained that "check for updates" option works for final versions only. It may be changed in the future tu support also beta and RC versions.

Beta 5 shows (on Win 7 Home Premium 64) something that I would call a bug (...only me?):

No matter what kind of network adjustments I coose - FDM only uses 2 chunks per file for downloads. Ok, it works very quick for me, ... but why this restriction of chunks (independent of configuration values)?

Any idea?

All unfinished downloads have been stopped after the update to new beta. New downloads which are created after the update also do not starting.
What may cause such behavior?

Ok, the problem is solved. I have changed settings in Maximum connections from Manage automatically to Set to (I have set 64) - and all the downloads have been started immediately.

Regarding my previous post , subject # 3:
" the save as filename - line is too short"
I have the following proposal to fix this :
1.) Put the line "Place DL at top of the list" ABOVE the comments and at the right of the line "Generate a file name automatically"
(This would be also logically better)
2.) Shift the comment field one line lower.
3.) Make the comment field a bit shorter (in height).
4.) Now you have enough space to extend the Save-As Filename field over the whole width of the Add-DL pop-up window. OR then you place the filename field just to the right of the SAVE-AS writing and by that you save one line. That could make the whole pop-up window a bit smaller.

That would look like that:
[_] Generate a filename automatically [_] Place download at top of the list
Save As : [______________________________________________________]

Thank you and continue the good work!

Regarding my previous post #1 "Check for updates",
I have the following proposal:
Under "SETTINGS - ESSENTIAL - UPDATE",
you can add a line

[_] Update also to Beta versions

Now you can leave it to the user, what he chooses.

Thank you Very much for listening
and keep up with the good work!

I am new to FDM, having moved over from GetRight. I very much like what you have done with the 3.8 beta, but have a feature change request for your consideration. The "Add Download" dialog box prompts for a target folder (using a Browse Folder system dialog), with the filename specified via a separate edit box. This makes it very difficult to choose a sensible filename in some situations, especially where the download filename contains a version number.

For instance, the FDM installer download filename is currently fdm38inst.exe, but will undoubtedly change as the version number for FDM changes. When I download, therefore, I wish to be able to view the existing filename(s) I have already downloaded to the target folder and tidy up accordingly as I start the download. I can do this easily in other download managers such as GetRight and DAP, as they use a normal file selection dialog box (instead of the folder browse box) - I can select a folder name *and* a filename in one operation. This may sound trivial at first, but it is a great time saver.

Changing FDM to use a file browser instead of a folder browser shouldn't affect any of your other functions - indeed it should make the "Add download" dialog box less cluttered.

First of all, you can do this - you need to disable the check box Generate a file name automatically and then you can edit the file name when saving.

Second, to make it easier for you, if you always download to a default folder, set it as your default.

Finally, to make it easier to edit file names on the fly, in addition to disabling automatic file name generation, here is what I do.

To account for this (and other scenarios, such as downloading a file named 'setup.exe' without knowing that that really is), I use the comments section to add whatever necessary information I need. In order to make use of comments, you need to go to Options --> Settings --> Downloads --> New Download --> Advanced button --> Miscellaneous tab --> check (enable) Append comment to the file name when done

E.g. with FDM38inst.exe I add a comment like "β1106" to differentiate the build numbers. The end result is fdm38inst (β1106).exe. If you do not add a comment it uses the default file name.

on some sites fdm does not download the correct files
>>>for example sometimes fdm loads a file named "download.php" instead of "x.exe"

I experienced the same problem with other download managers, too (DownThemAll etc.).
In such cases only the built in firefox dm does support such downloads.

Why is that :?:

FDM frequently hangs on computer shutdown/restart, when torrents are being downloaded.

Sorry, but you appear to have completely misunderstood. Disabling the automatic filename generation doesn't help - I have already done this - you still cannot see any of the filenames that exist in the target folder. Always downloading to a single default folder is of no help either - as I explained in my original post. A simple, standard, "Save as" dialog box as used by pretty much every single Windows app there is, is all I'm asking for.

Tested BETA 6, still found a bug ... and it's very similar to the one I posted after testing BETA 5:
After downloading one single file in 'full speed' (configured to 'heavy network usage'), which is downloaded with as many chunks as configured only 2 chunks are used for every additional file.
Furthermore: If I want to download a longer list of files (at least 10), FDM tells me, it creates a chunk - but nothing happens. Not one download starts in fact.

All these effects can be 'reset' by deleting FDM's application data folder in my user's profile as well as all started (and unfinished) downloads.

This behavior can be reproduced.

Please try to check this (confirm this at least - if possible).

I don't know what I do wrong, no matter which build of FDM i use, i never have any items under Complete, In Progress, Stopped or Scheduled in the Left Pane filters section.

Please, how can i have the appropriate items to show there, so i can see an overview of my current FDM session.
