Yeah, we've been thinking about that.

A capability to download podcasts (combined with a scheduler) would be a big win for folks on metered internet with an unmetered free period in the middle of the night. (This is the case for satellite internet users)

Only a very small usability enhancement: Keep the "completed with tick" persistent so it is easier to confirm that the download was successful.

I have one single need... have at least a MODE resembling 3.x complexity. On one hand not all users are "casual downloaders" and on the other hand some of us have slow internet connections and need to be more specific per download in the queue to maximize download efficiency of multiple downloads especially if some of these downloads have a habit of timing out if you don't treat them right.... I STILL use 3.9.7 because the newer, kinder, gentler FDM just does not work for me because it assumes that 1- I'm a "casual" and 2- My internet is fast and stable..... large mods on moddb for example is a pain to queue and forget because you have to keep checking back every hour.

Tried to do a meta4 download but either there is a trick I cant figure out (even in 3.9.7) or it is not supported.... http://www.metalinker.org/ mentions FDM as supporting this but that site seems a few years out of date in general.

Go to the download page (for example http://releases.ubuntu.com/artful/ ), find metalink listed there, right click the download link and select "Download with FDM" from the context menu in your browser.
If it doesn't work or if you want to get more help, follow the reporting rules and provide more details, please.

Proper numbered qeueing is a definite need not a want, as previously mentioned some of us have less than desirable connections and are pretty much permanently on 1 download at a time. With bulk downloads a further need arises to download either the smaller files first or files from one source before files from another.
