Metalinks
Metalinks
Hi,
I got the FDM cause I'm looking for a tool which is able to import Metalinks. But unfortunately I'm not able to open .metalink or .met4 -files with FDM. There is only a function to import .xml-files, but even when I save my metalink-file as an xml, the downloadlink won't display in FDM.
Seems that I'm doing something wrong, but where is my mistaken, looking forward for some help.
JDownloader is able to open my file.
Here it ist (just some file I found in the web, the metalink-file was created with Metalink Editor)

Re: Metalinks
So what are problems are you having? I just copied the url in the meta link and "create a new download" command and it downloaded the .doc file. Also it would help if you could provide the acutal site where you trying to get the file that would help other see what is happening.
Re: Metalinks
Hi,
ok, so, of course there is no problem by copying the url and paste it at a new download.
The problem is: FDM should open and extract the url out of the metalink by itself.
Copy the the code in a new file and save it as "Filename.metalink" or "Filename.meta4" and try to import this file in FDM.
In one *.metalink-file can be more than one url/downloadlink for one file, so there are downloadmirrors and FDL should be able to download from different mirror at the same time.

Re: Metalinks
Any problem with reading all the Wikipedia article you have linked? Could you browse carefully the table http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metalink#M ... comparison and write what features you want to see in FDM? Note that the table is a little outdated - magnet links are already supported in FDM.

Re: Metalinks
Hello,
I didn't notice that table, I read the wikipedia-article in my mother-language, they are not similar and the table wasn't there.
But now there is an explanation, thank you for the hint.
Is there a reason why the metalinks aren't supported anymore, is there a plan to integrate them in further version?
Anyway, the table allows me to try another software.
Thanks for your contributions.

Re: Metalinks
Metalink format is some kind of XML file and it is supported in FDM 3.x as import/export format.
You can select some downloads on the FDM download list, use FDM menu File | Export | Export list of downloads, then choose "Download Information List Files (*.xml)" in "Save as" dialog window. If you want to check the XML structure, you can open the file in Notepad.
If you want to download from metalink file, you should first download it (save it as XML file), then use FDM menu File | Import | Import list of downloads and select the downloaded XML file.

Re: Metalinks
Well, my old info was misleading. FDM supports metalink files only when downloaded directly from the Internet. You can't import download from the local metalink file.

Re: Metalinks
I still do not understand how I use a metalink file with free download manager.
I do not understand how I'm supposed to use FDM when a metalink file is downloaded directly from the internet.
When I download the metalink file it is saved to my computer. I'm not sure how to integrate FDM.
Would you be able to explain in more detail?

Re: Metalinks
If any download site provides metalinks, you should download needed metalink file with FDM, otherwise it won't be processed properly.

Re: Metalinks
My apologies. I'm at a website to download a number of satellite images where each file is 500-1000mb. I can click on a button to download a metalink file. How do I download that file using FDM instead? I tried to find a URL for the Metalink file but one doesn't seem to show when I right click on the button or hover over it. It would be nice to download them using the metalink instead of only being able to download two at a time and sometimes errors occur.

Re: Metalinks
If FDM is properly installed and integrated with your browser, it should automatically catch the download link and download the metalink file. If you have problems you should right click the download link and select "Download with FDM". Do not forget to provide your login name and password if needed.
What browser do you use?

Hello.
I'll review what you've said. I use Microsoft Edge mostly.
Thank you.

FDM doesn't work with MS Edge. Use Firefox or Chrome…
