Better caching for file download on hard drives

Postby Darki » Thu May 28, 2020 7:09 pm

Hello,

For people who has fiber (125 MB/s), is it possible to have more optimisation for downloads on an hard drive, or add some kind of caching values we could change for better caching.

the problem better detailled is ,
so If my os is on an m.2 and :
i download the file on the m.2, i reach full speed no prob ! 110-120 MB/s
i download now the file on the ssd, still no prob 110-120 MB/s
i download now on an normal hard drive, weird cache problem happens, speed reaches 110 mb/s max, with a lot of
speed fluctuactions, like sometimes it goes down to 0 start again etc...

if there is another way to fix this problem, please people let me know but if,
it's possible to add some tweaking values in the settings of the software to solve this problem please add it :D

Or as an idea :

Before the download start check a box where it ask if the file is being downloaded on a hard drive,
then if the box is checked just let the file being downloaded on the m.2 at full speed and move it automatically to the hard drive at the end of the download by reconstructing files smartly :D since i think moving small part to the hard drive have better speed or something.

In addition to above request, If you use a torrent client like BitComet or utorrent, those clients have an option for caching the downloaded files to ram, and writing to disk when it reaches a threshold set value like 1800MB ( we can set the value) thus reducing the disk write. So for every 1800MB downloaded it will be written to disk.

So could you add this value setting as well in the property of fdm, tht's in my opinion the best option instead of downloading on ssd and then moving the file on hard drives.
