Download Redirection Capability

Postby ChangKee » Thu Jul 15, 2004 7:52 am

Hi,

FDM is a very sound download manager but I find it currently lacking the ability to download from sites which use download redirection scripts like Simtel and many other software repositories.

I'm afraid that download redirection is only going to be increasingly commonplace as many sites find it a convenient way to track downloads as well as using it as part of anti-leech/anti-offsite-linking operations. I understand that overcoming redirection is a tricky thing and 100% success is hard to achieve but even a fair chance of success would be most welcome.

Cheers.

Example 1:

http://www.nonags.com/files/redirect/?h ... lasher.zip

Instead of downloading splasher.zip, FDM downloads index.html

Example 2:

http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/976700422/1

Instead of downloading dl201beta02.exe (after allow website to redirect to the true file), FDM downloads "1"

These are the more straightforward redirection scripts. More complex ones would incorporate popups and other nasties.

Cheers.

P.S. Since FDM does not integrate with Mozilla Firefox at the moment, I can only use Drag n Drop to the FDM Drop Box in order to make a download.

Problem downloading files with redirect :(

Postby AngelJ » Sun Dec 19, 2004 3:01 am

I am having a very similar problem even with FDM integrated into my Firefox. FDM tries to download the redirect link instead of letting it find the actual file first :(

I have tried disabling the Firefox integration temporarily, but FDM doesn't allow me to. I simply have NO way of downloading these files unless I completely uninstall FDM. This is surely a bug that needs some attention.

And I have no difficulties downloading the urls mentioned above. I just open the link in my browser (firefox) and after redirecting Firefox passes correct urls (http://aignes.swmirror.com/dlsetup.exe and http://spscv.cz/kolousek/public/splasher.zip) to the FDM. Maybe you are passing these urls directly to FDM intead of opening them in browser and waiting for the browser to call FDM?

I have Win2000 + Firefox + Flashgot + FDM 1.5 (firefox integration is ON).
