Allow FDM to work with Chromium Portable

Postby anagrammar » Thu Jun 23, 2016 9:20 pm

From searching, I gather that FDM looks for different flavors of Chromium installs, but I've run into an issue with Chromium Portable.

It was working fine in Chromium portable until I uninstalled Chrome, and then Chrome monitoring shut itself off. Even reinstalling Chrome wouldn't let me turn it back on. I had to reinstall FDM 3.9.7 build 1627 with Chrome already installed for it to work again (in Chrome and Chromium Portable).

I'm not sure why it needs to detect them at all, since the extension works in the portable version of Chromium as long as Chrome is also installed. The connection appears to be one way (from extension to FDM) so why would it need to detect Chrome for Chrome monitoring to be turned on, or need to turn itself off if Chrome is uninstalled?

If for some reason it is necessary, couldn't there be an option to point it to the correct directory? I really don't want Chrome (or any other extra browser) installed anymore, and it seems silly that the extension works in the portable browser only if another is installed.

Dear User!

Officially, we do not support this browser. However, you can try to delete Google Chrome and then install the extension on Chromium Portable.

Clive
