MS Edge doesn't support ANY extensions yet. MS devs claim that Edge will support Chrome-like API in the future - some more info may be available in October-November 2015.

Edit: MS informs that there won't be support for extensions in November's Threshold 2 update for Windows 10.

bleh, the GUI is dumbed down for retards - just like the vivaldi garbage.

its nice that you have listed all the predefined AV files but a better solution is to just ping Virus Total as does the program VT Hash checker (by boredomsoft). It might require users to register and download an API key but instead of 1 opinion you get what 55+?

Also, the program should absolutely have a portable option and it shouldnt make you install it first to get a portable one.
FDM 5 should be using Plug-ins for major additions like file converters or bit-torrent clients because not everyone would want these.

Im currently using FDM v3.9.4 Build 1482 and about the only thing i noticed that should be improved is that there should be a "Clear list of downloads" button or right-click option. Also instead of it saying "delete download" it should say "remove from list" just so there is no confusion that you would actually delete the file.

i can see that you're headed down the wrong path though so i may begin looking elsewhere for a complement to IDM, which is my standby downloader. FDM 3.9.4 was almost as good, FDM 5 looks lousy.

So ,shall I assume the new build has everything build 4726.1 had as well, or all of those were rolled back when it was pulled? The only new stuff since 4520.3 until 5140 is firefox 41+ compatibility?

Re: FDM 5 Preview 5.0.5140

Postby bob45 » Thu Oct 01, 2015 7:48 pm

I download the latest version 5.0 Build 5140.

When I add a download link, the application closes immediately ; the current version is unusable.
same problem with Version Build 4520.3
- the error message: " free download manager (fdm.exe) - fatal error (bug) occured. free download manager was terminated."

I reinstalled the Build 4726.1 version that works perfectly well.

Update:
I download the latest version 5.0 Build 5140.

When I add a download link, the application closes immediately ; the current version is unusable.
same problem with Version Build 4520.3
- the error message: " free download manager (fdm.exe) - fatal error (bug) occured. free download manager was terminated."

I reinstalled the Build 4726.1 version that works perfectly well.

how it happens: answer:
1. Version installed b4726.1
2. update version 5.0 Build 5140.
3. add a download link, the application closes immediately (Test with multiple URLs)
4. error message: " free download manager (fdm.exe) - fatal error (bug) occured. free download manager was terminated."

configuration: Windows 8.1 x64

I'm afraid you are ignoring the reporting rules, so answer my questions, please:
- What browser do you use? Provide full name and version.
- What way do you use to get download link - click mouse, right click and select "Download..." from the context menu, copy and paste link to FDM, any other way? Provide URL for the webpage with
download link.
- Have you tried to completely uninstall the old FDM version before installing the new one?
- Have you tried to test FDM with your browser on a new Windows user profile?

I can't find any way to tell FDM5 which ports are forwarded in to my computer.
This makes it impossible to try out the torrent feature properly. :x
What can I do?

I just downloaded FDM5 because Firefox got on my ass about updating properly so that I could use FDM with it and got into a huge mess. ANYWAYS! So far I like what I see but I personally miss that tiny little box in the corner! *sniff's* Any chance of getting my little buddy back? And also maybe a change skin option?

Thank you for all your hard work *FDM SUPERFAN*

"What browser do you use? Provide full name and version." = I do not use integration. Opera 32.0.1948.69 (and Vivaldi 1.0.291.18 (https://vivaldi.net/blogs/teamblog/)
- copy and paste link to FDM, : classical link , and filehost as a premium user and generate a direct download link for you (service type linksnappy)
- " Have you tried to completely uninstall the old FDM version before installing the new one?" = the old version was not installed. (3.x)
- "Have you tried to test FDM with your browser on a new Windows user profile?" = no, another computer under Windows 10 x32. Build 4726.1 was installed and works correctly. Build 5140 same problem : add a download link, the application closes immediately

Many links (especially from file hosting services) DO NOT work with copy and paste, some don't work like that even for premium users. They may require to watch ads, solve captcha, pass User Agent, Referer, session ID, other cookies or metadata from the browser, etc.

I mean ANY old version, including 5.x older builds.

It seems you did the same wrong thing once again - ignored suggestion to ALWAYS MAKE BACKUP of your FDM service files (*.sav) when dealing with alpha/preview builds.
The structure of *.sav files may be changed in alpha/preview builds without warning. Some changes may be incompatible so the service files may need conversion. In some cases FDM can't properly convert older files and may crash immediately after start or after adding a new download. See similar case for FDM 3.9.5: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17053&p=40412#p40412

BTW. Stop your strange way of answering and quoting, please. Use the forum editing tools (f.e. click (”) button to answer, cut unneeded quoting, use BBCode tags to properly format quoted text) and do not post your answers to random topics.

Aniruth wrote:But I think it lacks features present in FDM 3. Like shutdown after download and other things
What other things would you like to see in FDM 5? Name 3-5 most wanted features, please.

Glad to see you're still considering additional features.

I just installed build 5140. Only tested thus far on youtube, but seems like its doing what its supposed to do.

I do miss some things from 3.9.6 build 1614, along with a few wishlist requests

1) Resizeable main window that remembers its opening size and screen position. I cant see what the objection would be to this if it is possible to implement. For instance, sometimes I decide I want to download a youtube video while I'm watching it. The old version wasn't perfect for this activity either, because it opens in front of the video, but at least I could quickly move it to the side. Even if it wasn't resizeable, its much too big as it is now.

2) That leads to my second request. The alpha doesn't have either of the active download popup window options; show download progress window; dropbox; show downloads info while in progress. I like them related to the reasons I stated above, and especially in regards to the "show downloads info while in progress" window, for the fact that I can make it semi-transparent and move it above the window and let it sit over my desktop toolbar, completely out of my way, and remember to stay in that position until I use it again. I actually would like to see all three options back with the ability to remember screen position.

3) I also agree with Aniruth" if that means close any download progress window when finished.

4) Use tray balloons, show small notification window on download complication, automatically hide after, and use sounds. I may be wrong, but I didn't see these things in alpha.

5) In build 1614, when used with Flashgot, and the file name always comes up videoplayback, at least you get the real name or a reasonable facsimile in the "comment" section, so you can copy/paste into the "save as" field, which is far nicer than no such option in alpha

6) No FDM links in the "about" window

thanks

: no , I do not copy the download links. I use a website that gathers several hosts and to use their "Premium" services (To name these sites, I can not find the English translation). There is no Captcha, no watching ads, or other ...
this a paid service. Up to version 5.0 Build 4726.1 of FDM,it worked fine!

I mean ANY old version, including 5.x older builds.
: I will uninstall. and clean the registry, delete the remaining files and folders. Restart the computer and install the latest version 5.0 of FDM.

When I add a download link, the application closes immediately . = I specify: the download does not start. I do not have a corrupted file. After putting the URL and click the "OK" button, FDM is closed and error message " free download manager (fdm.exe) - fatal error (bug) occured. free download manager was terminated.".

Thanks for your report. It seems that the problem was with broken conversion of FDM service files. It would be clear if you did test FDM on a new Windows user account as I had suggested earlied.
