Mmm, and how many browsers will download something and then check the CRC matches?
I'm a geek at heart, and I have seen stuff with MD5 hashes next to it, but I am not aware of how to verify such codes. I guess I could Google, but it'd be much easier if this was automated. Firefox? Don't think so. MSIE? I hardly use that anyway... FDM? Can virus check and integrity check, but not aware of an MD5/CRC verification.

Checking the MD5/CRC verification requires downloading the MD5/CRC verification file and then using an application capable of using it. PSPad, a free text editor added this capability to their editor, also the free Windows Privacy Tray (part of the free GPG4Win) has the capability as well. That being said, even knowing what they are and how to check them, I rarely do when downloading from an author's site.

(if interested in either of these, I can respond with links to the author's sites and/or post those links if it would not violate terms of use in the forums.)

I think this redundant posting of the same posts over and over again is rediculous too, but in my opinion, as far as these fakes, it's just safest to download them from the original site that it was created for.

:) just wanted to thank u for fdm. my whole country suffers from extremely bad internet connections. if a file is over 5megs you'd probably have an awful time trying to download it. the only other decent internet connection here costs 300$ a month. it was almost impossible to share files with clients or work with people offshore but u guys made my life so much easier :] i'm grateful. and i don't think u should worry about fakes cause your product is the only one that i tried that works! so thank u

yeah and what's next? changing the name from firefox (again) to something "more unique" just because some smart head thinks it could be a good idea to use this well known name to guide more people to their own site.

in case of freedownloadmanager.com it's pretty lame from these reget.com people. is their product really that bad that they need such tricks?

anyway, i guess umbra were talking about real fakes, not copy cats.

No need to change its name, Free Download Manager
FDM's name is pretty good

Why dont you guys name your site "www.advancedownloadmanager.com"? that's pretty unique.

Ouups, I made a mistake. It's not http://www. freedownloadmanager.com but http://www. speed-downloading.com/ that contains a virus (Trojan) :

Is it safe to download FDM from download.cnet.com ?
I downloaded the setup from that site just yesterday.
I hope it's not the fake version.

I have been using FDM for quite a long time now...I love FDM because its very enhance in functions and interface is very user friendly as well.
I have tested many many downloaders as an experiment, but i always revert back to my Original choice FDM....I dont think any paid or free versions of downloaders can beat FDM!
FDM is really really Best!!
*And FDM must take actions against forgery,if there is any:* Regards

 Hello, I think it would be good if you put a screenshot on the main page to let people know that it is the amazing FDM they are looking for and not one of the many poor-quality imitations available. Also, IMHO, you might put a minibanner, a note or whatever in your home page stating that official home/download site for the original FDM is http://www.freedownloadmanager.org (not .com, not any other), so this would work as kinda mnemonic for users, preventing them from falling into the trap of unscrupulous imitators. In this vein, it would be a great idea to work on a complete change of corporate image from scratch, so the users will have better recall of the product and website. I would suggest you use an icon that incorporated the three letters FDM, and a slogan as "The REAL Free Download Manager", and that you emphasized in the domain. org to download. Thank you.

You probably misspelled the build number. It should be 931, not 913.
